Born into a Christian family, I caught a glimpse of Jesus and His mighty works. However, did I truly know the Lord personally? Not really. I prayed for help before exams and when in trouble, but that's not the same as having a relationship with Jesus.

I started growing closer to the Lord after my daughter was born, and she frequently fell ill. Simultaneously, my business went under, and finding employment was challenging. The pressure was maddening. But that's when I began seeking His help again. This time, I realized that He truly was a loving God. I started feeling remorseful for not seeking His presence during the good times. I landed a job, but I backslid a bit; nevertheless, His grace brought me back to Him. My daughter's sickness began leaving her completely.

Life continued, but then I started feeling a sense of purpose – what was I to the Lord? I sought His help in making me useful to Him. He led me to pray for my extended family and revealed many spiritual shortcomings. He asked me to convey these to them, and I did. Then there was a lull, and again, He asked me to pray without revealing the reason.

As I waited in prayer, the Holy Spirit guided me to pray for the city I lived in – filled with idols – and the nation. He revealed the devil's plans to pray against.

It was amidst this that I received the revelation for this writing ministry – Smooth Stone Ministry.

Why the name Smooth Stone?

In 1 Samuel chapter 17, we see the event of David being exalted as a giant slayer – literally. Jesus is like David – a giant slayer who defeated the devil on the cross.

In this biblical event, a very insignificant material plays a vital role – the smooth stone.

As I meditated on this, the Holy Spirit taught me like a teacher, peeling each layer of the hidden meaning of the seemingly insignificant smooth stone.

Now, let us look at the characteristics of the smooth stone:

1. It has broken away from a large boulder.

2. It has been pushed and pulled around by the stream for a long time.

3. The constant beating has smoothed it, removing any sharp edges.

The question is, why does God need smooth stones by the stream, which at best may be used by kids to play – nothing significant?

This is where the event in David's life has a lesson. 1 Samuel 17:40 states, "And he took his staff in his hand, and chose for himself five smooth stones out of the brook and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a pouch, and his sling was in his hand, and he drew near to the Philistine."

The reason David chose "smooth stones" was to use them in his sling. Only a smooth stone will slide quickly and effortlessly from the sling to inflict maximum damage to the enemy.

Now, let us see the nature of ministers that God seeks, in comparison with the characteristics of the smooth stone:

1. A person with no rough edges.

2. A person who will not question God's will and leading – whether staying in the pouch or being loaded into the sling and thrown at the enemy.

God seeks such smooth stones who seek no glory for themselves and are happy to be insignificant in the events but feel the height of their glory in being in His powerful hands to execute His will.

I will keep praying as led by the Holy spirit and share biblical insights as and when He decides to reveal.

Praise the Lord!

To the Glory of Jesus.
