Why should a Christian always follow Jesus and Not a preacher or any person appointed by God?

Samson is one of the prominent Judges who Judged and lead Israel for a period. He was born with a promise of immense strength. He was called to be a Nazirite to God from the womb. No razor could come on his head. He could tear a lion with bare hands (Judges 14:6). He could stand alone and kill a thousand Philistine men (Judges 15:15). However, this mighty Judge had a rather inglorious end.

As I was reading the bible portion on Samson. Three distinct things stood out. At first, he wants to marry a philistine woman. Israelites were not supposed to do that. However we find it was from the Lord to punish the Philistines (Judges 14:4).

Secondly, he breaks the Nazirite vow by eating the honey from the comb in the carcass of the lion he had earlier killed (Judges 14:8,9). The Nazirite vow is described primarily in Numbers 6:1–21. Here are the requirements:

1. No grape products. Forbidden entirely — wine, strong drink, vinegar made from wine, grape juice, fresh grapes, or raisins. Even grape skins and seeds were off-limits. This was the most detailed restriction, suggesting it was the most prominent.

2. No cutting of hair. The hair was allowed to grow freely throughout the vow period. It became a visible, public sign of the vow — a "crown of dedication" to God (Numbers 6:7).

3. No contact with a dead body. Even the death of a close family member (father, mother, sibling) did not excuse this. Corpse-defilement was the most serious breach, because it would defile the Nazirite's "consecrated head."

By eating honey from the dead lion’s body, he defiled himself. This sets in motion his decline and eventual death.

Thirdly, he could not control his lust and starts visiting a harlot. Although, this is not a defilement enumerated under the Nazirite vow, it is in direct conflict with the 7^th of the 10 commandments given by God to all of Israel (Exodus 20:14 & Deuteronomy 5:18) – “You shall not commit adultery”.

The two defilements of the body and soul lead to Samsons capture by the philistines.

We see many mighty servants of God today. They do mighty miracles in the Name of the Lord. Sometimes their mighty deeds make them feel great which leads them to make mistakes that defile their soul and body. Eventually, their deeds although mighty, they end up loosing their place in Heaven.

Samson was still powerful, even after defiling his Nazirite vow. He could still fight and kill the enemy. He became powerless when he defiled himself by adultery.  Proverbs 6:32 "But a man who commits adultery has no sense; whoever does so destroys himself."

The Hebrew is even stronger — "destroys his own soul" (nephesh). This is the most explicit statement that adultery is self-destruction at the deepest level.

Beware of such miracle workers/ servants of God. They have the Gifts of the Spirit, but they are on the path to hell and being with them can lead one to lose their place in Heaven. Always follow only Jesus. The duty of the servant is to show the way to Jesus and get out of the way.
