God picks not the eloquent but a smooth stone who is slow of speech.

Moses was born during a tumultuous time for the Israelites in Egypt. He survived the Nile, known to be infested with crocodiles, as a 3-month-old baby (Exodus 2:2). He was raised by the daughter of the one who sought his life – God's ways are indeed mesmerizing.

Moses grew up in the palace of the Pharaoh as his grandchild. The Bible says in Acts 22:7, "And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds." However, as a grown lad, Moses had to run for his life after he murdered an Egyptian, and the thing was known to the Pharaoh who sought his life.

At this stage, Moses was well-versed in the worldly knowledge that the Pharaoh's palace could provide. He was skilled in words and deeds, apt for a prince in the Pharaoh's palace. But God could not use him to glorify His Name because he was not a "Smooth Stone." God's glory is always manifested through smooth stones.

Just like the smooth stone that David picked from the brook, it was in Midian that Moses was tossed around until he was transformed into a smooth stone. No more the angry judge who didn’t hesitate to kill an Egyptian in Egypt. The Bible says in Exodus 4:10, "Then Moses said to the Lord, 'O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.'"

A man who was mighty in words and deeds now says – "I am not eloquent, I am slow of speech and slow of tongue" – what a transformation. He who had remarkably high self-confidence is now a meek shepherd of his father-in-law's flock in the wilderness. The same Moses whom God decides to pick at Mount Horeb to be used mightily against the Kingdom of Egypt to release His chosen flock – the Israelites.

The Bible says in Exodus 14:28 that this same Moses, now in complete submission to God, led the Israelites out of bondage and completely destroyed Pharaoh and his mighty army.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 1:27 - "But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong."

If you feel useless, and insignificant today, submit yourself to the Lord – He will make you significant in his ways and useful to His kingdom. The only catch – Are you willing to submit to His will like a smooth stone.

Praise the Lord.

Glory be to Jesus.
