Children need to be chastised. The Bible says in Proverbs 23:13-14 'Do not withhold correction from a child, For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. You shall beat him with a rod, And deliver his soul from hell.'
The Bible instructs parents to not spare the rod from their children for correction. Similarly, the Heavenly Father will not spare the rod from His children for correction. Today as I prayed for a better understanding of Chastisement, the Holy Spirit prompted me that this was a blessing from God.
How can Chastisement be a blessing?
Chastisement and punishment might look similar but if we delve deeper, we can realise they are both different because of the inherent intention. A punishment is a reward for a wrongdoing. A chastisement is provided to help the person realise the wrongdoing and take corrective action. A punishment is the end of hope, while chastisement is the continuation of
hope.
The Bible says in Hebrews 12:5-11 'And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord , Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.” If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.'
When children of God err, God as a loving Father, takes the rod of chastisement. for the verse clearly states "For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives". This means, if you are chastened, Praise God for being confirmed as His child. This helps us to come back into the path of the perfect will of God. When we are in the perfect will of God, we are in the presence which is the Secret Place of the Most High. This is indeed a blessing as we know from the previous blog.
edit:
As I prayed today, I got this revelation too... Sin is like a tumour in our body or like a stain in our clothes (cloth of salvation). Like removal of a stain or a tumour is painful, but the end is a blessing of longevity of the body or the cloth, so is chastisement.
Praise the Lord!
Glory be to Jesus.
